Sleeping in this igloo is a challenge
This is Finnish Lapland, in Levi to be precise. Never before have we stayed overnight in such a beautiful location as this igloo from Levin Iglut. But we don't get much sleep, because in the evening the Northern Lights put on a show right above our heads.

The surroundings alone are picture-perfect, as the igloo sits on a plateau overlooking the landscape. We were there in the fall (the "ruska" period, read the article about this special time of year) but this is also a dazzling location in winter, just take a look at the website of Levin Iglut, it's beyond belief how fantastic this place is.

Igloo with a view
You can book a luxury igloo here, or an even more luxurious one. They are fully equipped. We stayed in this super-deluxe version (see photos below) with this view (see photo above). It's furnished with beautiful, natural materials. The large bed has a soft bearskin (not a real one, mind you), and there's a jacuzzi on the terrace. How luxurious could you ask for? In the main building, you can also enjoy a fantastic breakfast and dinner at Restaurant Utsu. And then there's the view... In winter, you see a vast white expanse with snow-capped treetops. In autumn, you see the landscape at its truest. And there's a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights then too, so you don't necessarily have to travel to the far north of Europe in winter to see this light show.

No, I don't have any shares in this igloo concept, if only that were true 🙂
Front row in the igloo
That evening, we sit in the dark on our igloo bed, waiting for what will happen. Will we see the Northern Lights this time? Suddenly, they're there, and we're treated to an immense light show above our heads. We're completely lost as to where to look, as the sky glows with all sorts of colors to our left, right, and above us. We have a front-row seat.
"Watch out for the white light," a local advised us. "If you take a picture of it, you won't believe your eyes." It's like magic, because the photos of the white light (simply taken with a smartphone) suddenly reveal all sorts of colors. Apparently, that's hidden within the white light. Even though it's late, we don't dare close our eyes, because every time another beauty passes by. It's fireworks in slow motion, and we don't want to miss that. We'll sleep later.

Northern Lights Disclaimer
A disclaimer is in order here, because the Northern Lights, also known as the aurora borealis, are and always will be a natural phenomenon. So there are never any guarantees of seeing them. It could be cloudy, raining, snowing, or the conditions simply aren't right for the Northern Lights to appear. In those cases, you'll have to rely on the beauty of the country. A few years ago, I was in wintery Finnish Lapland and hoped to see the Northern Lights. But unfortunately, it snowed that week. But that didn't make the trip any less impressive, as you can see. here You can read it. But I'd love to live in that igloo. With or without the Northern Lights.
